The Scottish Ornithologists' Club (SOC) has announced two art exhibitions that will run at its Waterston House headquarters in Aberlady, Lothian, during June and July.

Seabird Cliff, Indigo Sea by John Busby.

Mostly Air by Chris Wallbank will be hosted in the main gallery. Chris is an artist specialising in painting, drawing and printmaking and a member of the Society of Wildlife Artists. He believes in the role that visual art can play in presenting themes of ecology in a new light. The drawings, paintings and animations in the show focus on the birds of Scotland, in particular East Lothian where Chris has lived since 2020. Everything on display, from outsize scroll drawings to delicate watercolours, is created from life, whilst rejoicing in watching birds and the sense of wilderness such encounters affirm.

Taking place concurrently in the corridor is a retrospective of works on paper by the late John Busby (1928-2015). An artist, author and illustrator, Busby was instrumental in developing wildlife art as a recognised artistic practice and inspiring many wildlife artists working today. The artworks in the exhibition represent the width of those travels with birds from the Indian Ocean, the South Atlantic, the USA, as well as Europe and the fabulous variety on his doorstep here in Scotland.

Both exhibitions run between 7 June and 30 July inclusive. Entry is free and no bookings are required. Opening hours are from 10 am to 5 pm between Wednesday and Sunday. Find out more at www.the-soc.org.uk.
