This year sees the 60th anniversary of the BirdWatch Ireland Cape Clear Bird Observatory (CCBO), the Republic of Ireland's only bird observatory.

To mark this historic event, the CCBO team has put together a series of talk and events, which will be held on the island from 2-14 September. All events are free – with the exception of any boat trips – and are suitable for all ages and experience.

Cape Clear Bird Observatory turns 60 this year.

The event opens on Monday 2nd and is blessed with a great selection of speakers on a huge range of subjects, from Irish lagoons to art and wildlife, from Lundy Island to saving the Cahow (Bermuda Petrel). Each day, weather permitting, there will be guided walks and/or ringing demonstrations, with designated children's events on the 7th and 8th.

The full schedule and more details can be found on the BirdWatch Ireland website at birdwatchireland.ie/ccbo60.

Contact details for booking accommodation at the Obs is found here. For travel information and details of available accommodation on the Island, click here.

Why not take a late break in beautiful West Cork, find an early American vagrant and visit one of Europe's top Bird Observatories – all in one trip. CCBO would love to see you there for an unforgettable experience on the famous south-west Irish island!

Cape Clear has a well-established track record of producing American landbirds, such as this Veery in 2018.
