BirdGuides, the premier bird information website, has joined forces permanently with Birdwatch in a major deal announced by the magazine’s publisher, Warners Group Publications.

Founded in 1994 and established as one of the first birding websites two years later, BirdGuides has become a leading online birding destination. The company is best known for its extensive range of news services. Bird News Extra, Email Alert, Bird Text Alert and Bird News Anywhere have between them made headlines and broken the stories of countless rare and scarce birds to thousands of birders for well over a decade. More recently, the company has launched a popular Bird News App for smartphones.

The company’s News Manager, Josh Jones, will already be well known to Birdwatch readers as author of the magazine’s monthly rarities and national notebook reports. He will now manage the BirdGuides news team from Birdwatch’s London office, while Dave Dunford will continue as webmaster of the award-winning site.

Commenting on the acquisition, Managing Editor Dominic Mitchell said: "BirdGuides is the leader in its field and a very successful innovator of birding products. We look forward to maintaining that tradition and the high standards of service the company has set."
