The January 2021 issue of Birdwatch goes on sale today [Thursday 24 December] and contains a free 2021 calendar, with photos voted for by you.

In this edition, Dan Brown takes a look at vagrant geese and where to look for them. With winter the prime time to go searching, Dan explores what carrier flocks to sift through and examines the status of species such as Ross's Goose in Britain.

In our ID guide, Andy Stoddart provides all you need to know to separate Snow Bunting forms, ages, and sexes. Bumping into a flock of these charismatic buntings can reveal a rather complex variety of plumages, but Andy's expert advice will help you nail each bird.

As well as this, we find out how two birders got on exploring Spain in a campervan, David Callahan takes a closer look at Common Crane and we announce the Birders' Choice Awards winners. Furthermore, there'll be all the rarities, scarcities and Western Palearctic reports, topical comment from columnists Lucy McRobert, Mark Avery, Dominic Mitchell, reviews, news and expert advice from our knowledgeable team.

You can buy the issue from newsagents or order online with free UK p&p.
