Entries open for Martin Garner award for young birders
Entries are now open for the Martin Garner Young Birder 2019 award, with the event taking place at Spurn Bird Observatory on 7 September. Spurn Bird Observatory Trust and the BTO are welcoming all young birders to take part in the event, which is named in honour of the late Martin Garner, one of Britain’s best-known birding experts.
The 2017 entrants (including winner Dante Shepherd, second from right) and BTO staff assemble for the prize-giving (BTO).
The competition is open to all young birders who will be 16 or under on 7 September, and also able to attend with a responsible adult. Anyone interested in taking part should submit an online questionnaire where they showcase their knowledge of birds.
Six finalists will then be chosen to attend for a day of birding with expert judges, including seawatching, visible migration, watching birds on the Humber and in the bushes and answering a couple of theory questions inside.
Last year’s prizes included binoculars, field guides, free membership of Friends of Spurn and much more. To find out more, click here, and to complete and submit the online questionnaire before the 7 July deadline, click here.
