Spurn Bird Observatory has announced details for its inaugural Research Day on Saturday 2 July.

The event will start with a guided walk with the Little Tern wardens to the colony and then several talks take place in the afternoon at Westmere Farm, detailing research projects at the Observatory and beyond.

Tim Jones will be giving a talk on Observatory Science, while Harry Witts will be presenting information on insect migration in the Spurn area. Lucy Mitchell of the UK Motus steering group will be updating on bird movements uncovered by the tracking system and there'll be details on the Twite Network from Jamie Dunning. Dan Wade will be discussing the impacts of avian influenza, while Lucas Mander gives a talk on Humber curlews.

Tickets are on sale for the Research Day at a cost of only £5, which includes unlimited tea and coffee as well as plenty of cake. You can purchase your ticket here or from the Spurn Hub on weekends.
