I have seen this bird many times but often thought why a 'spur winged' plover? I have seen on the internet many plovers. The bird has its name because of a spur (a small claw) hidden in each of its wings. In this photo we can see its 'spurs'. This is the reason this bird will attack visitors near its nest, it is known to sometimes use the wing-claws in an attack on animals and, rarely, people, who get too close to the birds young.
