This bird was released from a net on the beach at Druridge Bay, Northumberland, in which it had been accidentally trapped, on 4 April. The 'hoary' plumage was very akin to a winter Black Guillemot but the size of the bird, its large beak and the bridle seen behind the eye makes it a common Guillemot. Presumably it is a partially leucistic plumaged bird, particularly in view of the leg and bill colour. Your comments would be appreciated. Thank you.
