Female. They arrive here in Septmber but at that time they are very hard to spot, but towards late November they start to be more bold and show themselves more often, and one can easily see the male displaying for the female by puffing his feathers on the chin and head. they are breeding Autumn and winter visitors here, usually leave by March. having a brood in December so i guess there could be a good chance that they have another one before they leave.
