The image here is of a male that has just undergone moult where before he could not be distinguished from the female by plumage. He had two broods this year. There have been no previous recordings of double brooding in Manchester since they started breeding in the 1970s. I am happy to say another pair double brooded also. There is also good evidence that the male at the other site mated with another female and had at least one chick that successfully fledged.
