Most of my images of urban black redstarts were taken in a very dark and dingy narrow alley surrounded by high rise buildings in Manchester. I was, for the most part, shooting wide open at ISOs of around 2500 and 3200. I brought in total about 7 large sacks of wildflowers that I picked from a roadside near Strangeways and I placed the flowers in the alley in which the black redstarts could forage, and enable me to get a bit of colour in the images. The locals were treated to a colourful path and for me, the flowers helped mask the stench of stale urine which was particularly evident when my face was pressed to the gutter! The image was made with ISO 3200 and no noise software used. The image is full frame. The bird is a well worn adult female.
