This female belonged to a "high-ranking" male and would often crouch with her shoulders out and tail up shaking in his presence. At first I thought she was just displaying to her mate, but apparently this isn't the case. The male uses a simular display to other lower ranking males and this is obviously a display of dominance. Now this female ive observed as having the same dominance over the others including......... ANY OF THE OTHER MALES AND EVEN HER OWN MATE! I suppose this male could be likened to a King and this makes his mate a Queen who is no longer bottom ranking, but now a key figure in the ranks of the sparrow colony! This for me was really suprising and I'm hoping to find if anyone else has seenthis behaviour from females.
