The Western Isles face the open Atlantic, buffers to the wildest winds that reach our shores. When photographing nature, my husband Tony and I look not for species, but for 'situations' which communicate how birds relate to their environment. With their size and feeding habits, gannets are always spectacular to encounter and on this typically wild Hebridean day, the sight of them plunging between massive breakers reminded me that for the very best adapted, even the most adverse conditions are no contest.
