Record shot. This is part of a flock of some 28 birds at this location, which together with 5 Marsh Sandpipers, 7 or 8 Ruff and a dozen or so Wood Sandpipers, appears set to winter in Japan. This is unusual, as all these species are supposed to be mainly passage migrants, with only a few stopping in the far south of Japan, and Taiwan - but not in Ibaraki! A great record at the end of a fine day's birding.
