[Please email us (contributions@birdguides.com) if you have any ideas - Eds.] On 7th July at Chew Valley Lake Somerset a juvenile gull with an unusually long bill was spotted by three birders. It is the large bird at the back of the group. Both video grabs attempt to show its identifying characteristics. Having studied various guide books I am unable to identify it positively and have posted you the data in case anyone can shed any light on its identity. The two prominent features are the length of the bill and "bull neck" type appearance; apart from that it appeared identical to other juvenile gulls. Unfortunately due to a major problem with my PC I have been unable to download the image until last weekend.
