A walk with the family along the beach and dunes amongst the dog-walkers led to the discovery of this striking first-winter bird amongst some brambles, where it was being mobbed by a Meadow Pipit. The bird hunted amongst the brambles and after eating a wasp it perched up against a perfect autumnal blue sky. Lucky that the camera was in the backpack, although the books weren't. A quick consultation back at the car confirmed the initial thoughts on the ID.
