I was at the station of the Chemin de Fer de Provence in central Nice at around 3 pm and heard an odd bird call. I went to the bushes at the end of Rue Prince Maurice and saw three small sparrow-like birds. I got as close as I could with a 270 mm zoom lens to these two and took this photo, which I have cropped. It's a bit fuzzy I'm afraid but obligingly the birds were facing in different directions before they flew off so most features are reasonably clear. It took a while to work out what they were but I gather that there is a small breeding population of Indian Silverbills in and round Nice. The original birds may have been released when a zoo closed down. These were almost in the city centre. Most surprising.
