GSM and in fact any woodpeckers are very uncommon on the Island although we have had sightings and a testified successful breeding in recent years. This juvenile does not have a ring and could be the result of a breeding success in Andreas. A dead female adult was found a couple of months ago. It is nice to know that we have GSM's, but even better that they may have established themselves for good on the Island. I photographed a female which resided in our garden from Jan-March 2010 and we have seen a and female in Colby Glen and have heard of a breeding success in Sulby. Long may it continue.
