As this female Long-tailed Duck spent a lot of its time surprisingly close to the footpath round the tarn (under 10m on some occasions) it should have provided me with a golden opportunity to significantly improve on the distance shots taken of the two seen at Grune Point earlier in the year. I saw it on four occasions and watched it for a total of at least six hours, but not once in all that time did I see it spend more than about 7 consecutive seconds above the water. Very frustrating for a semi-competent digiscoper! Most of the photos I managed to get were of its rear end as it disappeared - yet again - under the water! This rather disappointing shot is the best I came up with.
