The 10.1 m high tide at Parkgate on the Wirral provides one of the greatest birding spectaculars in the UK. The water pushes up voles, mice and shrews to the top of the marsh grasses. This provides a feast for Egrets, Herons, Marsh Harrier, Hen Harrier, Peregrine, Merlin and Short-eared Owls. This unfortunate Shrew was picked up by a Black-headed Gull, dropped mid air into the water, but quickly picked up again and swiftly swallowed.
