Taken on 31/01/2009
I just wanted to post this image to counter Andy Booth's suggestion that "At least some of these photographers must be getting closer than the sensible viewing distance from these birds!" This is uncropped and taken from a distance of about 30-40m from the bird. This bird was well hidden from the viewing point that everyone else was using but it was possible to move about 20m to the left of the main viewing area and (just) see this bird through the hedge. The bird half opened its eyes when I initially set up my lens (hence the shots I posted previously) but it soon went back to sleep again as can be seen from this shot. I spent no more than five minutes in the location before returning to the main viewing area, from which my shots of the other birds were taken.
Equipment
