It is native to Africa south of the Sahara and the Nile Valley. The Ancient Egyptians considered Egyptian geese sacred. The female builds their nest from reeds, leaves and grass. Both male and female care for the offspring until they are old to care for themselves. Both sexes are aggressively territorial especially when breeding. It is believed they mate for life the female lays 5-8 eggs, which are incubated for 28 days. Last year in May they brood 11 chicks. This year the female lays 12 eggs in early February and only 5 chicks were hatched I believed she lays her eggs much too early we must remember we had a lots of frost in the month of February.
