We get so used to action shots on Iris that sometimes we can overlook a simple portrait that can be extremely effective, especially when it is of a fast-moving warbler and one that 'shouldn't really be here'. Roger Riddington's lovely shot of a Greenish Warbler fits the bill completely.
This very scarce migrant has been caught in a beautiful pose, with head slightly back, wings dropped and at a nice angle for a perfect identification image. Captured delicately perched on a leaf, it shows how light and dainty these birds are, able to land virtually anywhere while searching for insects.
Congratulations to Roger on his Photo of the Week, taken with a 400 mm lens at 1/800th second at f6.3 on ISO 1000.
