This systematic list has been compiled mainly from sightings reported on BirdGuides between March and June 2004 inclusive. However, additional records made in the county during the same period have also been included. It is not meant to be a definitive list of all the spring reports in Norfolk, and the inclusion of any record does not necessarily mean that it will be accepted by the national or county rarities committees. Red-throated Diver Two inland records at Nar Valley Fisheries Lake from March 6th to April 9th and at Blackborough End on April 12th. In late spring/early summer singles past Trimingham on May 21st and Sheringham on June 20th. Black-throated Diver Singles at Titchwell on March 10th and April 19th. Great Northern Diver The only spring record at Thornham Point in March. Red-necked Grebe One at Titchwell in March. Slavonian Grebe Up to 4 at Titchwell and one at Weybourne in March, and one inland at Hickling Broad on April 18th/19th. Black-necked Grebe One at Tottenhill GP from at least March 13th to 28th, and up to 2 at Welney on May 3rd-23rd. Fulmar Corpses of blue phase birds continued to be reported in March with 11 between Wells and Holkham, and one at Winterton. Manx Shearwater Singles past Titchwell and Cley in April, and Walcott and Sea Palling in June. Gannet Highest count past Gorleston with 53 on June 19th. Bittern During the spring reported from Titchwell, Cley, Horsey, Hickling and Strumpshaw. Night Heron A presumed escape at Sparham GP on May 1st. Little Egret Away from the regular haunts 1-3 reported from Lynn Point, Upton Fen, Strumpshaw, Buckenham Marshes, Caistor St Edmunds and Welney. Great White Egret Singles flying over Great Yarmouth on March 8th and at Breydon on June 29th. Purple Heron Singles at Waxham Cut on May 1st and Welney from May 29th to June 2nd. White Stork Reports of one in the Acle/Great Yarmouth area and in Broadland between April 20th and June 13th presumably refer to the same individual of unknown origin. Spoonbill First of spring at Titchwell on April 3rd, thereafter recorded between Holme and Sheringham in north Norfolk with a maximum of 8 at Holkham on June 11th, four days after a party of 7 were seen flying on off the sea at Winterton. Elsewhere up to 4 at Hickling, 5 at Berney Marshes, 5 at Burgh St Peter and 3 past Waxham on May 23rd. Bewicks Swan Up to 153 on Halvergate Marshes in March, a herd of 58 including a Black Swan flew east out to sea at Great Yarmouth on March 8th and 9 offshore at Waxham on April 3rd. Whooper Swan A late bird at Whitlingham Lane CP on April 25th. Taiga Bean Goose Two in the Horsey/Martham Broad area on April 3rd-11th. Pink-footed Goose Up to 1500 remained in northwest Norfolk and 4000 in east Norfolk in March. White-fronted Goose Up to 150 at Holkham and 230 at Breydon in March. Greylag Goose A remarkable record involving one with a black neck collar, inscribed OJF, at Rollesby Broad in mid June that had been ringed in January 2003 near Seville, Spain. This is the first proven movement between Britain and Spain of this species. The wintering population in Spain is made up of breeding birds from Scandinavia, and these birds pass through The Netherlands in the spring and autumn. Rosss Goose Single adults were still present at Burnham Overy and the Halvergate Marshes until March 8th. They were both subsequently relocated with the migrating Pink-footed Geese in Cumbria and one at Kinross in Scotland in April. Barnacle Goose A flock of 30 appeared at Hickling Broad on June 6th with 13 remaining until 13th. Black Brant At least 2 in north Norfolk in March with the last report of one at Wells on April 24th. Mandarin A party of 6 flew over Aylmerton towards Felbrigg Park on May 14th. Wood Duck Two feral drakes at Cley on March 31st. American Wigeon The drake at Holkham remained until March 13th. Green-winged Teal Drakes at Stiffkey Fen on April 16th, Berney Marshes on 17th and Cley on May 30th. Also a drake Green-winged Teal x Eurasian Teal hybrid at Hardley Flood on 27th.
Gargeney The first drake of the spring at Kelling WM on March 27th, followed by 8 (7 drakes) at Berney Marshes on 29th, thereafter a small arrival at other sites in April/May with a maximum of 5 drakes at Welney in May. Red-crested Pochard A female intermittently at Hickling Broad from March 22nd to May 15th, a drake at Thompson Water on March 24th-29th and April 15th, and a drake at Sennowe Park on May 22nd. Ferruginous Duck The drake at Lynford GP was last seen on March 3rd and one at Snettisham on April 16th. Scaup Singles at Snettisham, Hickling Broad and Welney in March/April. Long-tailed Duck Up to 6 at Holme/Titchwell and one at Hickling Broad in March. Common Scoter Up to 2000 at Holkham in March and 1000 at Titchwell on May 26th. Velvet Scoter Maximum of 60 at Holkham in March with a late bird at Titchwell on May 15th. Smew A drake at Ormesby Broad from March 28th to April 1st and one at Rollesby Broad on April 9th. Goosander Maximum count in March of 14 at UEA Broad. Last spring report of 2 at Hickling Broad on May 20th. Ruddy Duck Few reported with maximum of 3 at Ormesby Broad. Honey Buzzard An exceptionally early bird reported flying north at Feltwell on April 12th, which if confirmed will become the earliest county record by 11 days. The next were 2 flying southeast at Sheringham on May 2nd and one at Swanton Novers on 7th. Other migrants in May were singles at Wells on 12th, Blickling Park on 16th, Titchwell on 18th and 2 at Horsey on 29th. By June up to 4 were being reported regularly from the Great Ryburgh raptor watch point and 3 from Swanton Novers. Black Kite Singles at Waxham on April 17th, Horsey on May 6th and Great Ryburgh on June 7th. Red Kite The first of the spring at Massingham Heath on March 5th with peak passage between mid March and mid April, involving single birds at 17 localities. A further flurry of sightings between mid May and mid June, including a noticeable influx on May 24th with 4 over Winterton at midday, 2 west at Overstrand mid-morning, 2 east at Kelling WM later in the day and singles over Swanton Novers and Aylsham. White-tailed Eagle One reported over Colney on April 23rd. Marsh Harrier In March up to 11 roosted at Stubb Mill and 9 at Strumpshaw, with up to 8 at Buckenham Marshes. The highest counts of birds on spring passage were from Aylmerton with 4 west on April 3rd and a total of 12 passing through on May 2nd. Hen Harrier Peak passage in April, with May sightings at Blakeney Point on 1st, Aylmerton and Sea Palling on 6th, and Winterton on 19th. A mid summer report of one at Titchwell on June 27th. Montagus Harrier A male west at Cley on April 17th followed by a ring tail the following day were the first of the spring. Thereafter migrants reported until May 26th at Titchwell, Salthouse, Weybourne, Sheringham, Waxham, Horsey and Great Ryburgh. In June recorded at Choseley, Hickling and Stalham. Sparrowhawk The only significant movement reported involved 9 at Winterton on March 26th. Common Buzzard Up to 4 remained in the Massingham area in March. Very few sightings of birds on spring passage. Rough-legged Buzzard Up to 3 remained at Massingham Heath until March 16th, 3 east at Holkham on 17th and 3 over Titchwell/Docking on 25th. In April singles at Little Massingham on 11th, West Runton on 14th and west at Cley, Blakeney and Stiffkey on 25th, in May singles east at Aylmerton on 2nd and 6th, and at Hickling on 3rd. Red-tailed Hawk The escaped bird reported again at Swaffham on March 16th. Osprey An early migrant at Cley on March 28th, thereafter about 9 in April and 13 in May at scattered localities throughout the county, but with the majority in north Norfolk, where individuals lingered for 2-3 days in mid May at Titchwell and Sennowe Park. Two different birds over Holme on May 2nd. In June singles at Holme on 5th, Titchwell on 10th and Strumpshaw on 23rd. Red-footed Falcon A first-summer male at Waxham on May 1st-13th, females at Bacton and Burnham Overy and a first-summer male at Cley on 2nd, a female at Snettisham CP on 22nd, a first-summer male in the Hickling/Horsey/Winterton area from at least May 29th to June 3rd (may well have been the same bird as at Waxham earlier), a first-summer male at Glandford on May 29th, a male at Wheatacre on June 5th and a female at Bittering GP on 10th.
Merlin Up to 5 roosted at Stubb Mill in March, but in April only recorded regularly at Blakeney Point with up to 2 until the end of the month and one on May 1st, when one flew north out to sea at Weybourne. Hobby The first of the spring at Sheringham on April 21st, Snettisham CP and Strumpshaw on 24th, and Holme on 25th. Lanner An escaped falconers bird at Titchwell on March 6th. Peregrine The last bird of the spring was at Blakeney Point on April 30th, and presumably an early returning bird at Haddiscoe Marsh on June 17th. Quail The first of the spring at Thornham on May 14th and Horsey on 28th. Only reported from 5 sites in June. Golden Pheasant Up to 5 at Wayland Wood, 4 at Wolferton, 2 at Thompson Water and one at Lynford GP in March/April. Reeves Pheasant A feral bird at Wayland Wood on March 6th. Water Rail A very impressive count of 24 calling at Strumpshaw on March 5th. Crane Up to 13 roosted at Stubb Mill in March and 14 circled over Waxham on April 9th, of which 11 drifted out to sea at Horsey. Away from Broadland, one at Blackborough End on March 14th, one over Burnham Norton, Felbrigg and Overstrand on April 14th, 3 west at Gimingham and 2 southwest at Glandford on 17th, single(s) over 6 coastal localities between Breydon Water and Holme on 14th, Ridlington on 15th and between Paston and Blakeney on 16th. Black-winged Stilt The long-staying male remained at Titchwell throughout the period. Avocet Peak counts in March/April included 95 at Hickling Broad, 240 at Breydon Water and 65 at Welney. Elsewhere away from the coast and Broads singles reported in April from Whitlingham Lane CP, Nar Valley Fisheries Lakes and Pentney GP. Stone Curlew The first bird returned to the Brecks on March 8th and by early April at least 6 were at Weeting Heath. Two were reported away from their usual haunts singles at Waxham on May 6th and Holkham FM on June 21st-23rd. Pratincole sp One reported at Wells on April 23rd. Little Ringed Plover The first of the spring at Titchwell on March 8th, Welney on 17th and Hickling Broad on 19th, with a maximum count of 10 at Welney on April 17th. Kentish Plover Males at Hickling Broad on April 1st and Cley on May 29th. Dotterel A trip at Waxham on May 5th-27th, peaking at 5 on 6th and 6 on 16th. A male at Blakeney Point on May 18th-23rd. Knot Singles inland at Nar Valley Fisheries Lake on March 27th and Whitlingham CP on May 3rd-5th. Sanderling A count of 6 at Hickling Broad on May 25th is unusual this far from the coast. Little Stint A small influx in mid to late May with 5 at Hickling Broad on 17th, peaking at 8 the following day, and singles at Cley on 20th-22nd, Buckenham Marshes on 22nd and Welney on 27th, with 2 at Hickling Broad on June 16th. Temmincks Stint A good influx in May involving 25-30 birds (out of a national total of 190) with the first at Hickling Broad and Welney on May 3rd and the last at Cley on June 6th. Maximum site counts of 7 at Hickling Broad on May 19th, 5 at Buckenham Marshes on 16th, 4 at Cley on 22nd, 2 at Titchwell, Stiffkey Fen and Welney, and singles at Holkham and Berney Marshes.
Curlew Sandpiper The first of the spring at Welney on April 16th and Cley on 30th, where a maximum of 9 on May 27th. Elsewhere 1-4 at Titchwell, Hickling and Breydon Water up to June 10th. Purple Sandpiper One at Titchwell in March and a highly unusual inland record of one at Buckenham Marshes on March 9th. Broad-billed Sandpiper One at Hickling Broad on May 14th. Ruff Up to 21 at Titchwell, 44 at Buckenham Marshes and 40 at Welney in March. Jack Snipe Spring passage from March 19th with singles at Titchwell, Kelling WM, Hickling Broad, Winterton and Strumpshaw. A late straggler at Hickling Broad on May 19th is the second latest date for the county. Snipe An impressive total of 120 at Hickling Broad on March 19th, presumably involved birds gathering prior to departure on their spring migration. Long-billed Dowitcher One reported flying west at Titchwell on May 1st. Nine previous Norfolk records of this species, the most recent in 1998. Black-tailed Godwit Maximum monthly counts included 434 at Breydon Water and 500 at Welney in March, 150 at Snettisham and 208 at Cley in April, 85 at Hickling Broad and 60 at Buckenham Marshes in May, and 173 at Cley and 203 at Breydon Water in June. Whimbrel The first of the spring at Sheringham on April 13th and Weybourne on 14th, with 12 on Blakeney Freshes by 19th. Maximum counts of 61 at Berney Marshes on April 23rd and 66 at Hickling Broad on 26th. Spotted Redshank The usual small spring passage with the first migrant at West Somerton on March 19th. Maximum of 5 at Berney Marshes on April 23rd, otherwise 1-2 at Titchwell, Cley, Hickling Broad, Breydon Water and Welney. Redshank A record count for the estuary of 1566 at Breydon Water in March. Greenshank Small spring passage with the first migrant at Holme on March 3rd. Up to 4 at Blakeney Point, Cley, Berney Marshes and Welney in April/May with a maximum count of 5 at Hickling Broad on May 19th. Green Sandpiper A small spring passage in April involving only single birds. Typically one of the earliest waders to return on autumn passage shown by a count of 9 at Cantley BF on June 19th. Wood Sandpiper The first of the spring at Wroxham Broad on April 25th and Titchwell on 29th, thereafter 1-2 at a few sites until June 9th. Two at Holkham on June 29th may have been early returning autumn migrants. Common Sandpiper The first of the spring on April 22nd with 2 at Burnham Overy and singles at Sennowe Park and Hardley Flood. An impressive count of 23 at Berney Marshes on May 18th. Pomarine Skua Singles flying north at Trimingham on May 21st and west at Cley on 26th. Also an intriguing record of one flying south inland at Cley on June 2nd. Arctic Skua Singles south at Horsey on May 1st and Great Yarmouth on 5th. Bonxie One south at Waxham on May 31st and another flying low over Strumpshaw before heading off northeast on June 27th. Mediterranean Gull Up to 32 still present at Great Yarmouth in March. Elsewhere highest counts of 4 at Holkham Park on April 20th and 3 at Cley in May. Little Gull The first of the spring was at Hickling Broad on April 10th increasing to 7 by 15th and 6 at Barton Broad the following day. In May up to 16 at Titchwell and 10 at Hickling Broad, and 8 at Buckenham Marshes on June 1st. Yellow-legged Gull The highest count during the period was of 6 at Cley in June. Caspian Gull 1-2 recorded during each month of the period. Iceland Gull Four spring records a first-winter intermittently at Ditchingham from March 14th to 29th, one at Burgh St Peter on April 19th, a first-summer at Blackborough End on May 13th and a first-summer at Lynn Point on 15th. Glaucous Gull A total of at least 6-7 probably present in the county in early spring. The first-winter remained at Ditchingham from late February until March 29th with a different first-winter present on 26th, a first-winter was in the Blakeney Point/Cley/Weybourne area intermittently from March 14th to 30th, a first-winter at Aldeby on March 27th and April 19th was joined by a second-winter on April 2nd, a first-winter at Saddlebow on March 28th and first-summer at Winterton on May 5th. Sandwich Tern The first of the spring were at Breydon Water on March 18th and Cley on 27th. Roseate Tern One on Arnolds Marsh at Cley on May 30th was the only one reported. Common Tern The first of the spring were at Barton Broad on April 1st, Winterton on 4th and Pentney GP on 5th. Arctic Tern The first of the spring were 3 at Wroxham Broad and 5 at Barton Broad on April 8th. Thereafter a small spring passage to May 12th with a maximum count of 10 at Colney GP on May 3rd. Little Tern The first of the spring was at Breydon Water on April 17th. Black Tern The first of the spring was at Barton Broad on April 16th. A small passage noted on April 25th/26th with 5 at Rockland and Wroxham Broads and 2 at Whitlingham CP, followed by a few more between May 1st and 27th with a maximum count of 7 at Welney on 17th. One was at Shropham GP on June 20th. White-winged Black Tern Two second-summers at Hickling Broad on May 18th-22nd were relocated in West Yorkshire on 21st/22nd, before returning to Hickling on 23rd and 27th.
Little Auk The only report concerned a single corpse on the tideline between Wells and Holkham in March. Puffin The only records concerned tideline corpses in March 2 between Wells and Holkham and one at Sheringham. Turtle Dove The first of the spring were at Strumpshaw on April 14th and Choseley on 18th. No reports of any significant numbers passing west on spring passage. Cuckoo The first of the spring were at Waxham on April 12th, Strumpshaw on 13th and Snettisham and Stiffkey on 16th. Long-eared Owl Coastal migrants at Winterton on April 4th and one in off the sea at Holme on May 1st. Short-eared Owl Up to 3 remained in the Breydon area in March/April and singles in the Blakeney/Cley/Salthouse area and at Waxham in April/May. Elsewhere one in off the sea at Holme on March 30th, and singles at Snettisham, Titchwell and Caister. Swift An extremely early bird at Horsey on April 3rd, equalling the earliest date for the county in 1985 when birds were seen at Wells and Cley. Subsequent records at Ormesby on April 17th and Cley on 18th. Alpine Swift At least two and perhaps three individuals one at Cley on March 19th was possibly the large swift seen flying west at Colby three days earlier, one at Beeston Regis on April 18th and Sheringham on 21st/22nd, and one at Cromer on 26th. European Bee-eater At least 5 birds reported in May one at Wymondham on 3rd, a party of 3 recorded flying around the coast from east to west at seven localities between Cley and Snettisham on 16th and at least 2 south at North Wootton the following day, and one heard calling at Horsey on 29th. Hoopoe One at Horsey on April 17th and Hickling on 22nd. Wryneck A small influx in late April/early May with singles at Winterton from April 28th to May 2nd, Blakeney Point and Walsey Hills on April 30th, Burnham Overy on May 1st/2nd, Weybourne on 2nd-4th, Waxham on 2nd and inland at West Newton on 8th. Finally one of the latest spring dates for the county inland at Runham on June 14th. Woodlark Two records of coastal migrants 2 flying over Hunstanton on April 21st and one south at Caister on 24th. Shore Lark Up to 21 remained at Holkham in March with 14 on April 14th, elsewhere 4 at Waxham on April 2nd and Horsey on 2nd-5th, up to 4 at Cley on 23rd-26th and one on May 2nd. Sand Martin The first of the spring were at Holkham on March 15th and Salthouse on 16th. Swallow The first of the spring were at Necton on March 28th, Hindringham on 29th and Holme on 31st. Red-rumped Swallow Singles at Holme on April 27th and Winterton on May 3rd. It was disappointing that in a record invasion involving over 50 birds countrywide between April 5th and May 9th, only two should be recorded in Norfolk. House Martin The first of the spring were at Necton on March 22nd and Thompson Water on 25th. Richards Pipit One at West Runton before flying west on April 25th. Tree Pipit The first of the spring were at Weybourne on April 9th, Holme on 12th and Snettisham CP on 16th. Rock Pipit One inland at Swanton Morley GP on March 28th and the last of the spring at Breydon Water on April 15th. Water Pipit In March up to 6 at Cley, 26 at Strumpshaw and 25 at Buckenham Marshes. In early April recorded at Titchwell and Pentney GP, with 2 at Hickling Broad on April 13th. Yellow Wagtail The first of the spring were 3 at Cley on March 18th and Nar Valley Fisheries Lake on 20th. Maximum spring counts included 50 at Holme and 100 at Blakeney Freshes on April 22nd and 50 west at Weybourne on May 2nd. Blue-headed Wagtail A small passage between April 17th and May 16th with maximum counts of 3 at Waxham on April 17th, and 4 at Blakeney Freshes and 3 at Sea Palling on 24th. Grey-headed Wagtail Two at Waxham on May 16th and 2 at Hunstanton on 18th with one the following day. Citrine Wagtail A male briefly at Salthouse before flying on to the Cley Reserve on April 24th. White Wagtail The first of the spring were at Winterton on March 7th and 4 at Gorleston on 18th. Thereafter 1-4 at scattered coastal sites up to April 24th, with 2 inland at Pentney GP on April 1st. Just one May record at Hunstanton on 19th. Waxwing In March up to 5 remained in Norwich and up to 5 between Thetford and Croxton, with the last 4 at Strumpshaw until 28th. Black-bellied Dipper The bird at Letheringsett Mill during the winter was also seen on March 12th/13th. Alpine Accentor One on cliffs at Overstrand on April 20th was unable to be relocated the following day despite careful searching. Only the second county record, following one on Sheringham cliffs in April 1978 that remained for five days.
Nightingale The first of the spring was at Hunstanton on April 21st and a migrant at Blakeney Point on May 2nd. Black Redstart The first of the spring were at Sheringham on March 6th and Holkham on 15th. Passage continued throughout March and April with the last at Saxthorpe on May 8th/9th. Multiple sightings of 3 at Waxham on April 2nd and Winterton on 3rd and 5th, and 2 at Great Yarmouth Cemetery on May 6th. Common Redstart The first of the spring were at Holme and Blakeney Point on April 16th and Titchwell on 17th. The only multiple sightings were at Blakeney Point with 3 on April 26th and 5 on May 2nd. Whinchat An extremely early migrant reported at Stiffkey Fen on March 14th, the first Norfolk record ever before the beginning of April, but no more until singles at Snettisham CP on April 19th and Hunstanton on 24th. Stonechat Highest count of spring migrants was of 4 at Blakeney Point on March 15th. Northern Wheatear The first of the spring was at Cley on March 16th with arrivals at Great Yarmouth, Gorleston and Whitlingham CP by 18th. Maximum counts of 19 at Blakeney Point on 19th and 20 at Burnham Overy on 22nd. Rufous-tailed Rock Thrush A male reported in flight at Blakeney Point on May 1st. Three previous county records, all between April 30th and May 22nd.Ring Ouzel Another good spring passage with the first migrants appearing at Holme on April 1st, Waxham on 2nd and Snettisham CP on 3rd. The vast majority recorded during April with the last of the spring at Waxham on May 16th. Maximum site counts included 26 at Holme on April 17th, 7 at Beeston Regis on 22nd and 8 at Waxham on May 2nd. Fieldfare Late migrants in May at Weybourne on 1st, Waxham up to 16th and Sheringham on 16th, and one at Cart Gap on June 9th. Redwing The last of the spring at Weybourne on April 16th. Cettis Warbler Away from the central and eastern areas, reported during the spring from Snettisham CP, Holme, Holkham, Cley and Weybourne. Grasshopper Warbler The first of the spring were at Strumpshaw on April 13th, Snettisham CP on 14th and Horsey Gap on 15th. A migrant was at Blakeney Point on May 2nd. Sedge Warbler The first of the spring were at Titchwell on April 12th and Sea Palling and Weybourne on 16th. Spectacled Warbler An unconfirmed report of a possible female at Long Hills on Blakeney Point on May 2nd. No more details available at the present time, but if accepted would be an addition to the county list. Subalpine Warbler A male in song at Thetford on May 27th. The species has become virtually annual in spring in recent years, but this is only the second away from the north coast, and the first at any great distance inland. Lesser Whitethroat The first of the spring were at Snettisham CP and Sea Palling on April 16th. Whitethroat The first of the spring was at Weybourne on April 16th. Blackcap A presumed over-wintering female in an Upper Sheringham garden on March 15th. Wood Warbler Spring migrants recorded at Titchwell on April 26th, Holkham Park on May 1st and Great Yarmouth cemetery on 2nd (3) and 21st. Chiffchaff The first spring migrants were at Weybourne on March 15th and Sheringham on 17th, by which time several were singing in Norwich. Willow Warbler The first of the spring were at Hickling Broad on April 1st and Waxham on 3rd. Firecrest Over-wintering birds or spring migrants were reported in March at Titchwell, Holkham, Cley, Winterton, Caister, Great Yarmouth cemetery and Wortwell. Very few April records of presumed spring migrants on the coast with only singles at Weybourne on 9th and Brancaster and Sea Palling on 16th, and recorded inland at Tottenhill GP on April 2nd and West Newton on 9th and May 23rd. Spotted Flycatcher The first of the spring was at Great Yarmouth on April 28th. Red-breasted Flycatcher A first-summer male at Blakeney Point on May 17th. Pied Flycatcher Only reported from Blakeney Point with 2 on May 9th and one the following day. Golden Oriole A female at Winterton on May 19th and a male in song at North Walsham on June 11th. Red-backed Shrike Spring migrants at Titchwell on May 8th-11th and possibly the same male at Holme on 12th/13th, Blakeney Point on 9th/10th (male), Waxham on 9th-12th (female), Sculthorpe Moor on 22nd (female), Winterton on 23rd (male), Horsey on 24th (female) and Brancaster on June 5th (female).
Great Grey Shrike Spring migrants at Holkham on March 15th, Cromer on 31st, Upton Fen on April 4th and Burnham Deepdale on 10th. Hooded Crow Singles in the Waxham/Winterton area on April 4th/5th and flying west at Cromer and Burnham Overy on 22nd. Hooded x Carrion Crows hybrids at Winterton on April 17th and flying west at Salthouse and Blakeney Point on 19th. Raven Reports of 2 flying north at Salthouse Heath on April 25th and one south at Choseley on June 26th. Brambling Up to 200 between Thetford and Croxton in March. Highest counts in April included 25 flying south at Waxham on 3rd, 40 at Salhouse Broad on 4th and 15 at Strumpshaw on 11th. The last of the spring at Winterton on April 23rd. Serin A female at Hunstanton in the early morning and the same or another west at Titchwell in mid-morning on May 16th. Twite Up to 20 at Holme, 100 at Titchwell and 20 at Holkham in March. Lesser Redpoll Maximum count of 50 at UEA Broad in March. Common (Mealy) Redpoll Only reported from UEA Broad in March.Crossbill In the spring 2 at Holme on March 28th and April 12th. Early summer movements of 29 north at Gorleston on June 14th, 2 south at Honing on 17th and one south at North Creake on 21st. Common Rosefinch Males in song at Holkham Meols on May 24th, near Sheringham on 25th and Happisburgh on June 8th. All three records falling within the peak period for the county. Hawfinch Up to 8 in March and 2 in April at Lynford Arboretum, and also reported from Kelling Heath in early March. Lapland Bunting The wintering flock at Choseley peaked at 27 on March 10th. Snow Bunting In March up to 35 at Holkham and 20 at Titchwell and Cley, while a mile or so inland up to 11 remained at Choseley. A male in breeding plumage was on the beach at Winterton on May 27th. Pine Bunting The male was last seen at Choseley on March 11th. Corn Bunting An impressive total of 70 were counted at Choseley on April 18th.
