Spurn Migration Festival

In the first event of its kind in Britain, Spurn (East Yorkshire) is to host a National Migration Festival on 6th–8th September 2013. Bird migration is one of the great wonders of the natural world and the Spurn peninsula, on Yorkshire's east coast, is arguably the best place in Britain to witness this spectacle.

Friday 6th September

The festival will have an informal start on the evening of Friday 6th September at Westmere Farm with an illustrated talk on "Visible Bird Migration" by pioneer Keith Clarkson. There is no charge for this opening event.

Saturday 7th–Sunday 8th September

A packed programme of events over the next two days will give visitors the chance to engage fully with the wonders of migration. Each event will be led by expert staff and volunteers of the host organisations, including:

• Guided migration watches (visible migration aka 'vis-migging')
• Seawatching
• 'Searching for Migrants' walks
• Bird-ringing demonstrations
• Wader-watching on high-tide roosts
• Moth trap demonstrations
• Plant and insect walks
• Illustrated inspirational talks by Keith Clarkson, Martin Garner, Nick Moran and Danae Sheehan
• A hog roast including a free glass of wine at 6pm on Saturday at Westmere Farm before the evening lecture

There will also be an art exhibition and workshop in the Lighthouse, digi-scoping and photography workshops, and a chance to learn more about Spurn through guided history walks and beachcombing along the fossil-rich shoreline.

Tickets are available ONLY from the central booking office of the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and can be booked by phoning 01904 659570 or by emailing info@ywt.org.uk. Tickets will be on sale from 1st July and all tickets will be sent out by post along with an information pack by 1st August. The event has a limited number of tickets available so it is better to book soon to save disappointment! Day tickets (Saturday and Sunday) are priced at £12 and weekend tickets at £18. The hog roast is priced separately at £8 and is limited to 150 people.
