IdentificationThe male is easily identified by his green and yellow head markings and warm reddish underparts. The duller female is rather trickier but the pinkish bill and pale eye-ring should catch your attention. The streaked head and yellowish bib will then confirm the identification. HabitatBreeds on bare and scrubby hills and fields, occurring more widely on passage. MigrationThe Ortolan Bunting is a trans-Saharan migrant wintering in Guinea, Nigeria, the Ivory Coast and Ethiopia. This information is taken from the BirdFile on the appropriate BirdGuides DVD-ROM. As well as video and sounds, our CD- and DVD-ROMs contain additional text on Voice, Sexing, Ageing, Food, Nests and Eggs and more. BirdGuides rarity status: Scarce
