IdentificationThe most common view you are likely to get of this species is of a large skulking species just occasionally peering out from the depths of a bush. It gets its name from the barring on the underparts of the adults but this can be variable. Juvenile and first winter birds may show no barring at all and look like big grey Garden Warblers with heavy bills and pale edges to many of the wing feathers which creates a double wing bar. HabitatBreeds in mature scrubby thickets and hedgerows. MigrationA migratory bird, wintering in east Africa; the Kenyan Highlands and Tanzania. This information is taken from the BirdFile on the appropriate BirdGuides DVD-ROM. As well as video and sounds, our CD- and DVD-ROMs contain additional text on Voice, Sexing, Ageing, Food, Nests and Eggs and more.
