Identification

Lady Amherst’s Pheasant is structurally similar to Golden Pheasant but the tail and ‘lawyer’s wig’ of the male are stunningly silver with black barring, and the belly is white rather than red. The females are even more similar, but the Lady Amherst’s has a pale belly, a blue, not brown, eye-patch and blue-grey legs. Her general colour is more russet than golden.

Habitat

Favours young, dense woodland particularly brambles, rhododendrons and conifers.

Migration

Sedentary.
