IdentificationThe multi-coloured males have a golden crown and rump, a gold and black ‘lawyer’s wig’ and reddish underparts. The females are less distinctive but are more golden-brown than female Pheasants especially on the underparts which are prominently barred with black. At close range, a bare brown patch around the eye is diagnostic. HabitatFavours dense woodland particularly rhododendrons and conifers. MigrationSedentary.
