Identification

Clearly different from a Manx Shearwater. It is slightly larger and basically dusky-brown in colour, even on the underparts which, though paler than the upperwing, are not contrastingly white as on Manx. Indeed, some individuals can look so dark they even resemble Sooty Shearwater in colour.

Habitat

Breeds on remote headlands and islands, otherwise oceanic.

Migration

Disperses into the Mediterranean after breeding, before migrating westwards into the Atlantic.

This information is taken from the BirdFile on the appropriate BirdGuides DVD-ROM. As well as video and sounds, our CD- and DVD-ROMs contain additional text on Voice, Sexing, Ageing, Food, Nests and Eggs and more.
