Right-click on the text asset to pop-up a menu of actions that you can perform on the document.

Selected text can be copied to the clipboard using the Copy menu item or by pressing Ctrl+C. This can then be pasted into another document such as Microsoft Word ©. You can also open the document directly into Adobe Acrobat © where you can perform additional tasks such as printing.

The complete document can be searched using the Find in Text feature. This displays a standard search dialog allowing you to enter specific words to look for in the document.

Viewing My Notes Assets

My Notes are user-created text assets created for a particular publication or species. Use them to add your own comments, observations or identification tips to the assets on the disk.

My Notes

To create a new Notes asset, see Adding your own Notes.

To view or edit an existing Notes asset, double-click on the Notes icon in the Asset Selector, or the asset itself in the browser, then click in the box and type whatever you want.

Navigating Through Browser Pages

BBi keeps track of each of your visited pages allowing you to quickly flick backwards and forwards through them. Simply click on the Forward and Back buttons in the browser toolbar.

A browser page can be cleared of its contents by clicking on the Clear button in the browser toolbar. This is useful when building your own asset collection - see Making your own Asset Collection. To view the publication or species assets again simply re-select the publication or species in the navigator - see Selecting a Publication.

Scaling Assets in the Browser

To change the size of displayed assets use the browser toolbar's Zoom Slider control. This will size the assets from the smallest possible images at its minimum position to the largest possible images that will fit in the browser in the current view mode at its maximum position.

Please note however, that with the browser in thumbnail mode and the scale set to maximum there maybe some degradation in performance when running BBi on minimum specification machines.

To maximize the browser display area to the full size of the screen, click the Full Screen button on the features toolbar or select Full Screen from the features menu. Currently displayed assets will be re-sized according the current zoom scale and browser view mode. To Exit out of full screen mode press ESC or Ctrl+O. Alternatively right-click in the white border area of the browser and select Exit Full Screen from the browser context menu.

Taking Snapshots of the Browser

Your current browser layout can be saved at anytime as a snapshot. Simply select Save Snapshot As from the file menu and enter a snapshot name. To recall your snapshot of the browser select Open Snapshot from the file menu.

This is very useful if you have assembled a special browser layout, say of mixed publication or species assets for comparison (see Mixing Assets from Different Publications), and wish to save it for future reference.

Viewing Asset Information

Click on the Information button in the features toolbar or asset caption bar to display the asset information dialog. Alternatively select Information from the features or the asset menu.

This provides you with information about the asset such as its origin, copyright and technical details about its file type and format.

Click on the browser's Toggle Captions button to hide or show the asset caption bars.

Individual assets can be removed from the browser page by right-clicking on the asset and selecting Remove from the asset menu. To view the asset again simply re-select the publication or species in the navigator - see Selecting a Publication.

Changing the Title Language

Right-click in a blank area of the browser and select Language to display a list of available languages as shown here. Select the desired language from the list. The title will refresh to display in the selected language. The current navigator language will not be effected.

See Changing the Navigator Display Language for more information on changing the language of the species selector lists.

Note that if assets from more than one species are being viewed in the browser then the species title will not be displayed - see Mixing Assets from Different Publications.
