Adjusting Video Settings

When experiencing any problems with the videos, it is advisable to try adjusting the QuickTime video settings via the Control Panel.

To set the QuickTime Video Settings

  1. Close the BirdGuides program if you have not done so already.
  2. Click the Start button on the Windows desktop.
  3. Select Settings, then Control Panel.
  4. If there is a link reading 'View all icons' or similar at the left-hand side of the Control Panel window, click on it.
  5. Look for the QuickTime icon. There may be several icons that read 'QuickTime' - the one you want has a blue three-dimensional letter Q as an icon and if you single-click on it will show the message 'Configures QuickTime software and hardware components'. If the icon is not present, this suggests QuickTime has not been installed at all - please call on 0870 011 9803 for further assistance.
  6. Double-click the icon to run the QuickTime configuration program.
  7. Open the topmost drop-down list and select 'Video Settings'.
  8. Make sure that the 'Options' radio button is selected and that the first two tick-boxes are unticked. The other two boxes are now greyed out and cannot be altered.
  9. Close the QuickTime Settings window.
  10. Close the Control Panel window.
  11. Run the BirdGuides CD-ROM (via Start, Programs, BirdGuides) and see if the changed setting has improved the image quality.
