Home > Coast-to-Coast > 9: Reeth to Richmond
Fairly late start after breakfast (bacon sarnie) at 10:15. A couple of miles of road-walking to Marrick Priory (nice) then uphill to pretty Marrick village, followed by attractive farmland (with our first views of the North York Moors ahead) to Marske. Saw a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker in Marske, my first since childhood. After Marske we climbed to the foot of Applegarth Scar and followed the varied and pleasant path below Applegarth and Whitcliffe Scars, with constant views over Swaledale, into Richmond.
We played pool in the afternoon (in one of the few pubs we found with real ale) than back to the B&B. Went for a curry in the evaning; the B&B landlady did some much-needed washing for us.
Weather: dry and mostly sunny. Walk: 7/10. Mood: 7/10. Cumulative distance: 110¼ miles.
