Home > Coast-to-Coast > 8: Muker to Reeth
Because we hadn't been able to find accommodation in Keld and had to go on to Muker, we missed out on the official upland route over the lead mining areas above Gunnerside, and today's walk was a gentlish stroll along the Swale instead.
We left Muker at about 9.30 and retraced our steps in damp conditions to the bridge over the Swale (the more direct route via a footpath shown on the map crosses the Swale via stepping stones that are impassable outside high summer). Pleasant riverside walking in generally improving conditions. Saw a Kingfisher (which unfortunately flew before Andy saw it - he's never seen one). Got to Reeth not long after 1pm but nowhere was showing Man Utd v Liverpool. So, darts, pool and papers until dinner (smoked haddock fishcakes). All-square at darts, Andy one up at pool.
Weather: damp early on, brightening up. Walk: 7/10. Mood: 7/10. Cumulative distance: 100 miles.

Interesting path below Isles Bridge - it followed the top of this well-made
