Home > Coast-to-Coast > 2: Ennerdale Bridge to Rosthwaite
8.25 start after another average breakfast. Lovely early-morning light - saw several Roe Deer in mist. Took the advice of the lads in the Three Tuns and walked north of Ennerdale Water rather than the official route to the south. Made very good time along the track to Black Sail Hut, averaging 3mph and arriving there before noon. The climb up Loft Beck was quite tiring and slowed us down. Phone call to/from Russ at the top (forgotten password) when I got a mobile signal. Quite chilly as we walked across the tops and then descended to Honister Slate Mine for a cup of tea. Long descent down road and then through woods to Rosthwaite. B&B something of a timewarp, we being easily the youngest there, but good traditional food. Arrived before 3 after what felt like an easy day.
Weather: Generally fine though cooler than yesterday. Walk: 8/10 Mood: 8/10 Cumulative distance: 28½ miles
