Hayfield to St. Bees

Saturday 14th October 2006

Michelle dropped us at New Mills Central station; a quick change at Manchester Piccadilly saw us on the train to Barrow-in-Furness. Dull journey enlivened by some cheeky Scouse kids. Four Little Egrets at Leighton Moss from the train. We changed at Barrow - a pretty trip thereafter (expect for Sellafield!) to St. Bees. We watched the end of Wigan v Man Utd (1-3) in the Albert Hotel (no real ale) then dumped our gear at the B&B and had a couple of pints and a sandwich (and a chat with the locals) in the Manor House Hotel. Lovely warm sunny weather. Dinner at the Queens Hotel: Calamari and Cumberland Sausage.

Weather: reasonable, improving to a warm and sunny afternoon.
