BWPi includes the most comprehensive collection of video clips ever published on the birds of the Western Palearctic.
More species than ever before Of the 970 species covered in BWPi, no fewer than 830 of them have video clips. This compares with about 600 species in BirdGuides' All the Birds of Europe and fewer than 500 in the Oxford University Press CD-ROM. More clips per species than ever before BWPi has a total of almost 2300 video clips – almost 5 times as many as on the Oxford University Press CD-ROM. This means that in many cases there are video clips showing a species in different plumages and performing different activities such as flying or displaying. Even the BirdGuides DVD-ROM Guide to All the Birds of Europe had a maximum of 5 clips per species, whereas in BWPi some species have more clips than that. Longer clips of many species In many cases, what is presented as one clip is actually a montage of several shots, so you get a chance to get several views of birds in that plumage. This makes it easier for you to get an overall impression of the 'jizz' of that bird. Better quality reproduction than ever before The video footage has been reprocessed using the latest technology so it now looks better on the screen than in any previous product - better than in All the Birds of Europe and significantly better than in the Oxford University Press CD-ROM in which the videos could only be viewed at a very small size but reproduced badly even then. Unlike the videos in the OUP version, those in BWPi can be 'frozen' at any point and then watched 'frame-by-frame' backwards or forwards to look for particular details. Background information on the video clips All the video clips have an Information panel which, in most cases, includes details of where the bird was filmed, when and by whom (where we have this information). This can be key information when trying to work out whether the bird shown may be a particular race or in a particular stage of moult. The aim has been to provide a resource which will give all birdwatchers the chance to watch and study almost every Western Palearctic species as if they were seeing them in the field. This means birdwatchers will get the chance to become 'familiar' with species even before they've seen them in the wild. This is something that even the best illustrations and photos can't offer. And, of course, on BWPi you can also listen to the songs and/or calls of over 600 species too! | Previews | |||||||||||||||||
