All the species in BWPi can be viewed in one of four formats: Thumbnail View, Single View, Quad View or Species View. These screen-grabs show some possible 'Single views' for Red-necked Grebe.
Notice that the annotations are in two colours. Green text points out ways of distinguishing this species (from other grebes); purple text points out how to distinguish a bird in this plumage (from Red-necked Grebes of other races or ages). This makes it easier than ever before to see quickly how to identify a species and define what race or age it is. Videos in Single View mode As in previous BirdGuides products, the videos can be 'paused' to show any plumage or posture, with 'back' and 'forwards' buttons to help you find the pose you want to study. A new feature is the ability to change the size of the image (any image, including videos) to any size you want using a slider in the toolbar. You can also opt to remove the menus temporarily and, if you want, all the toolbars, so that 'full-screen' really is full-screen, like this:
Or you might be happier to watch the videos at a smaller size like this:
Here are some more of the assets in BWPi, shown at different sizes in Single View mode:
Note that the distribution maps uniquely show exactly which sites in Sweden, Greece and Turkey have breeding Red-necked Grebes – the amount of detail in these maps is phenomenal.
These annual cycle diagrams provide a fascinating picture of when that species breeds, moults and migrates.
This is the text from the original 9-volume set (Handbook). Notice how the texts are clearly divided into labelled paragraphs so it becomes much easier to find which bit of text refers to the juvenile, for example. And notice the menu on the left-hand side that will enable you to jump quickly to any section. The section on names in different language has been both updated and extended to include more languages. The text from Concise BWP is also accessible within BWPi. | Previews | |||||||||||||||||
