BWPi: Comparing Images

One of the great benefits of the new software is the ease with which you can compare any images. The possibilities are endless but here are a few examples:

To compare images within one species

If you click on the Quad View button in the toolbar you will be given 4 images of the species you are looking at, usually 2 illustrations and two video clips. If these aren't the 4 images you want, you can 'drag and drop' from the selection in the bottom left of the screen, to create something like this:

To compare images of different species

There are many options. The Compare Species button create spaces for two species, one on the left, one on the right, each with its own navigator, like this:

In this case, both species are presented in Thumbnail View. This helps you to choose which images you particularly want to compare. Having done so, you can then take away the navigators (simply by clicking on the Toggle Navigators button) to get a screen like this:

Alternatively you could look at two species in the Quad View format. With the navigators hidden this could look like this:

If you just want to compare two images in detail, you can view each species in Single View mode, which might look like this:

Another option allows you to clear the screen and build your own set of assets in any of the different formats. You can drag and drop any asset from any species onto the screen. In this way, you could, for example, create a screen of juvenile buntings in Thumbnail View, like this:

Or you could build a page of any four video clips (or illustrations, or a combination) in the Quad View format. Here's an example:

Remember these aren't static photos, but video clips that allow you to watch each bird in action, just as if you were in the field. But you can watch these over and over again whenever you like, alongside any other species you choose and with the option of freezing the action to study any aspect of posture or plumage.

Lastly, having created a screen that you think is really useful, you can save it as a Snapshot, which is then added to a menu listing all the Snapshots you've created so you can return to any of them almost instantaneously.
